The Birmingham Clean Air Zone is in operation 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and covers an area of the city centre within the A4540 Middleway. Over 300 road signs are in place to alert drivers about the Clean Air Zone. There are 2 types of signs in place.

The first are informational signs before the boundary of the zone.

The second type of signs are on the boundary of the zone itself.

The Clean Air Zone is in operation 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and covers an area of the city centre within the A4540 Middleway.

Where is the boundary of the zone?

The daily fee can be paid online or by phone and it is important to note that a charging day is from midnight to midnight. If you do need to pay the daily fee you can do so 6 days before your day of travel, the day of travel or 6 days after your day of travel.

Pay a penalty charge

To pay you’ll need the 10-digit number listed on your PCN and your vehicle registration number. A 50% discount will be applied to your charge if you pay within the discount period as shown on the PCN

Challenge a penalty charge

If you believe your Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) should not be paid you can challenge it. You can view the photographic evidence online. You must ensure you attach any evidence to support the basis of your challenge.
